A handmade wooden plane is light, responsive and capable of the finest smoothing and shaping. In this two-day class, students will employ basic woodworking skills to transform a block of hardwood into a sensitive and lasting tool. As the planes are completed, students will learn or refine sharpening and planing techniques. They will also become more knowledgeable about a plane's mechanics in general, enabling them to troubleshoot and tune up any plane. The instructor uses handmade planes to shape and smooth much of his own work.
Basic woodworking skills are practiced to a high degree of accuracy in order to result in a lasting, valuable tool.
